Facebook recently announced a bunch of changes and updates. You can watch it here. As stated in this video, Facebook is focus has gone from user growth to user engagement. Facebook is wanting you to share your life in ways where Facebook will become a timeline of your life, now known as “Lifestreaming”.
So what does this mean for Brands using Facebook? Well, they are NOT going to be able to get away with pointless, spammy, uninteresting updates. The focus for Brands is not going to be to get the “Likes”, it’s more about stepping it up a notch and engage through stories. Getting inside the consumer’s head is now more important than ever! If you remain uninteresting, you will pay for it. You pay for it by not showing up in timelines as much. This means you will need to earn your way in the timeline. This is serious stuff! The content you share is going to need to be amazing!… Time to get creative!
Brands are going to need to make sure they make the mindset shift… It’s not about how many “Likes”, it’s about engagement. Now you might be asking, “How the heck am I supposed to get more people to my page?!” Good question!
As many of you know, Facebook has a powerful PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising platform (Which is also going through changes). Something else that is pretty new is something called “Promoted Stories”. This is something that could be a very helpful tool to get your message out there and exposure to “non-fans”.
Also creating interaction with give-a-ways and competition can help gain exposure.
So with all these changes, doesn’t it sound like things are going to be harder? Oh, there is good news!…
Many of the spammy companies on Facebook will lose their ranks. It will cause the inexperienced to fall to the bottom and allow you to rise to the top (Because you have taken the time to learn how to do things the right way).
Primary Take A Ways:
- Produce value like never before!
- Produce creative value like never before!
- Map out how you will strategically engage your viewers.
- Do not take these changes or your Brand presence on Facebook lightly.
- Be sure to measure your sentiment and KPIs.
If you have staff or a social media manager doing your social media marketing, setup a meeting with them to make sure they are up to speed with all the changes and how to best implement new strategies. If you are doing everything on your own, it might be profitable to you to brainstorm with someone. Hire an consultant or join a mastermind group that will help keep you productive and moving forward effectively.
I’m sure we will continue to see even more changes coming to Facebook due to it’s challenger, Google+. Time will tell. The main thing is, you need to make sure you are ready for these changes and you have a plan.
If you have any questions or comments about this, I would love to hear from you below.
