If you have joined this Social Media Revolution that so many have jumped into, then it is extremely important to make sure you are doing everything right. This is where creating a killer social media content strategy comes into play.

It seems like everyday I am seeing Tweets and Facebook updates from different brands and it is very clear they lack a Social Media Content Strategy. You can tell they are just posting what comes to mind in that very moment, or they are trying to sell the traditional way using Social Media…. Which comes across more like spamming.

So What Is A Social Media Content Strategy?

Well, it comes down to the content you are posting via Social Media. But, it’s not that simple…

There are some very important marketing principles that need to be brought into action.

These are:

• Have a very clear understanding on the message you are wanting to express about your brand.

• Have a very clear understanding on who your target market is and what it is they are looking for.

• You need a system in place that can measure and monitor your social media efforts.

So let’s dig into this a little deeper…

Strategic Branding

Something I always drive home with my clients is how they MUST have a clear understanding of the message they are wanting to express to their target audience. This is something far too many businesses have not thought about. Expressing your brand through social media is what I call Social Branding. Social Branding is where you are expressing your brand through Social Media platforms. Which you can find much more info on this on other articles on this site.

Your Target Market

Taking the time to know and understand your target market is a really BIG deal! Entrepreneurs that do not do this stand a much higher fail rate. When you know where your target customers hang out, what motivates them to buy, (Fear, pleasure, etc.) and what they are wanting to see and hear online, you will be able to deliver exactly that! Doing your homework in this, will help boost your brand and loyalty with your “Tribe” because you will be giving them exactly what they want. So don’t guess… Know!

Measuring Your Social Media Efforts

Now when it comes to measuring  your social media ROI and reputation, it’s important to not overlook this. We offer a pretty cool service that allows us to monitor something called sentiment, this is where we can see what people are saying about you and if it is a positive, negative or neutral way they are saying it in. Social Media should not be a guessing game, with the right strategies and systems in place, it doesn’t have to be. Everything should be measurable and trackable.

If you are just starting out and what to be able to search for people talking about different keywords that are relevant for your niche, you can use different tools like Hootsuite or Spout Social. These are great management tools, plus you can monitor different keywords.

Tracking your KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are also very important. Not knowing these will leave you guessing as to whether or not people are taking any action to your calls to action.

KPIs can include:

- Comments.

- Likes.

- Followers.

- Bookmarks.

- ReTweets.

- Links Clicked On.

- Subscribers.

That is just to name a few. If you don’t want to invest in any tools, you can still get started on just some of the basics, you should be monitoring how many new followers you get on Twitter each month and how many “Likes” you are getting each month on your Facebook Fan Page. You can keep track of these using a simple spreadsheet. See what I mean?

There is so much more that we could talk about and we will in future posts! :)

So keep in mind…

- Know the message you want to express.

- Know your target market.

- Strategically come up with plan that you can engage those people consistently.

- Have a system in place that can track and measure your ROI, KPIs, Sentiment and links.

I would love to hear your thoughts, questions and strategies that you have when it comes to creating a killer Social Media content strategy.

Until next time, keep moving forward!
